LOWERED SPRINGS FITTED TO YOUR CAR?

Fitting lower springs can certainly reduce roll, but it WILL throw out your important camber settings as well as change your toe-in and caster.

Suspension systems work in arcs, and manufacturers optimise them to work within defined limits. Lower your car and you move outside those limits. Lower your car by 1 inch, and your camber will increase by more than 0.5 degree. That may not sound much, but it can be 100% more than the original setting!

Furthermore, your toe-in will increase at the front, and your toe-in will decrease at the rear.

This will often cause a reduction in handling and road holding (especially during cornering) as well as cause premature wear to the inside edges of your expensive tyres.

For those drivers who enjoy track days, being able to change your camber trackside for increased turn in has been an option only for the lucky few.

SO HOW DO I MEASURE AND ADJUST THE CAMBER?

Camber adjustment is not possible as standard on SW20 MR2s. However, by replacing the upper strut mounting bolt it is possible to correct or reset the camber to your desired setting. Except for a torque wrench, no special tools necessary, and no cutting or drilling required.

CAMBER GAUGE

This is a compact and very accurate magnetic camber gauge. It has a simple leveling adjustment of +/- 3 degrees. Housed in a durable, non-magnetic casing with a magnetic head that attaches firmly to your brake disc allowing fast and accurate measuring of camber before, during and after camber kit installations whether trackside or on your driveway.

1) TOYOTA CAMBER BOLTS

OEM bolts designed specifically to change the camber by a predetermined, known amount. Ideal where a permanent, long term solution is required, and the adjustment needed is known. The reduced diameter shank allows the hub position to be adjusted in relation to the strut.

These bolts offer +-0.75 degrees of adjustment.

2) SPECIALITY PERFORMANCE CAMBER ADJUSTMENT BOLTS

Based in Longmount, USA, SPC have been designing and manufacturing suspension components for both modified street cars and professional race teams for over 30 years. They are ISO9001 registered and are the preferred supplier by many of the top installers/modifiers in the USA.

Their products should not be confused with mass produced items such as those from Ingalls or OBX. To date, SPC have NEVER had a bolt fail that has been installed to the correct torque.
